2 Paragraph Response
In the first paragraph, please explain to what job you were assigned and a brief description of that job. What are traits or characteristics are common in people that make them good at this particular career? Do you agree that you also have these traits and characteristics? Do you think you would consider this job as your career? Even if not, do you agree you would be good at it or enjoy it? In the second paragraph, please discuss how you felt about the experience of being assigned to your career. Did this experience affect how you felt about people in Jonas's community being assigned careers? Why or why not? Do you think people would be happier with their jobs in our society if they sought job referrals rather than choosing their own jobs?
Nov 30 = PEER EDIT DAY (must have a typed draft to participate; worth 20 points just to participate)
Dec 2 = POETRY ANALYSIS DUE (typed, MLA format, packet with pre-write and poetry annotations included)
In class, we are moving on to poetry! I know a lot of students are averse to poetry because "they just don't get it"; I was certainly one of those students growing up. It was not until I had to start teaching about poetry that I really understood how to break it down, and I hope to help your students in the same way. Students will choose one from these three poems to analyze in their next written performance task.
-Robert Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay" (included in The Outsiders)
-Pablo Neruda's "Ode to enchanted light"
-Mary Oliver's "Sleeping in the Forest"
*If your student does not have a Google Docs account, please help them set up one so they can access their classwork from home (and vice-versa).
**This is also a free app on smart phones so students can dictate their essays and practice typing when editing. This is a HUGE time saver!
COMMON ASSESSMENT #3
It's that time...again ;) Common Assessment will be issued Nov 14th-18th before Thanksgiving Break.
*RUSD grades on a non-traditional scale where 50% is passing (not failing). Once all scores are recorded, they will be curved to match a more traditional grading scale.
